It's Different!

Everybody experiences one 'bubble-burst' moment in their lives. At some point in their lives, I'm sure. For me, the first one happened when I actually saw Usha Uthup for the first time, if you know what I mean. And then many other such instances followed, for various other reasons. But I remember that was my first 'bubble-burst' moment.

I was ten.

Well..the point is - how many times have you associated a voice you heard, to a certain face in your mind? Obviously many times, huh? But have you any time felt that the voice you heard 'tasted' like something you ate? Ok, don't frown - it may be weird, but it has happened to me a couple of times lately.

The new crop of singers, especially girls, have such a range of voice texture that it is impossible to think of them, or at least compare them to the voices of yesteryears. It is a good sign too, we get to hear so many different voices. And they go well with the new faces you see on screen as well. You don't have to cringe when you see Amritha Rao mouthing her lines to...maybe Latha Mangeshkar? No offence, I salute the nightingale and there was a time when I couldn't even imagine any other singer's voice in hindi films. But now...

Ok, enough of the foreword. Here's a list of singers and songs they crooned in the recent past I personally like. They taste...err..sound really yummy. There's a certain 'crack-jack' feel to their voices. Have you felt the same?
  • Shruti Pathak - Mar Jaawan (Fashion)
  • Hema Sardesai - Badal pe paon hai (Chak de India)
  • Aneela Mirza - Say na say na (Bluffmaster)
  • Anushka Manchanda - Golmaal (Golmaal)
  • Tanvi Shah - Fanaa (Yuva)
  • Mahalaxmi Iyer - Kabhi Neem Neem (Yuva)
  • Rekha Bharadwaj - Namak Ishq ka (Omkara)
  • Sunidhi Chauhan - Sajna ji waari (Honeymoon Travels)
  • Bombay Jaishree - Zara zara (Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein) This is a bit older in comparison.
  • Gayatri Ganjawaala & Sunidhi Chauhan - Pyar ki yeh kahani (Honeymoon Travels)
  • Kavitha Seth - Iktara (Wake up Sid)
  • Rahat Fateh Ali Khan - O re piya (Aaja Nachle)
  • Rahat Fateh Ali Khan & Mahalaxmi Iyer - Bol na halke halke (Jhoom baraabar Jhoom)...Don't even ask about the movie, though.
********
I'm sure I missed out a lot more - fill me in... Oh, and btw, no bubble-burst moment happened this time round ;-)

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's 'Aaj din chaddya' from Love Aaj Kal...a great composition and very well sung too. And another one is Sasural Genda phool from Delhi 6 - gets my feet tapping instantly!

You are absolutely right there. But I feel bad that the shelf life has come down. Wondering any of these songs are like classics ? You can just pullout the cd and soak yourself into that magic? Time will tell. and to answer myself I personally trip over Rahat fateh ali khan and mohit chuhan songs. They are beyond words.

Some singers like Rekha Bhardwaj and Malaxmi iyer has peculiar voice does not go with all genre. I have also liked Vishal as singer. His song from Dostana is very bubbly and he was there along with Sukhvinder in Dhan ta naa from Kaminey.

None the less
here are some from my playlist

1. Aao ge jub tum
2. Tum se hi
3. Ajj din chadheya
4. Yahin hota hai pyar kya
5. Naina tag lenge
6. Boondein

Oh I can go on. :)

celestialrays: Ah..Kailash, how did I forget him? When I think of him, I immediately get 'Allah ke Bande' in my head.. Teri Deewani is good as well.

Neha: Oh yeah, oh yeah...

BlueMist: Of course, the shelf life is down, what are you saying?! You can't even compare the oldies with tunes today.

Thanks for your list, it's good. :-)

Sucharita: Oh yeah, and these - Ramba ho, Shaan(title song), and the ever-fresh 'one two cha cha cha' from Shalimar?? Vintage, I say.

DiDo: Yep, Naresh and Mohit make it to the list just as well...thanks :-)

Shruti Pathak was awesome in Payaliya from Dev.D as well.

And so was Aditi Singh Sharma in Yahi Meri Zindagi Hai and Anusha Mani in Dil Main Jaagi from the same movie.

Check out the songs if you haven't already.

Heya... hopped over from Purnima's blog!

Kabhi Neem Neem is by Madhushree not Mahalaxmi Iyer. She also sang "hum hain iss pal yahaan" in Kisna!

have u heard, "Haan Maine chukar dekha hai" from OST of Black, by Gayatri Ganjawala?... amazing vocals! :)

Shreya Ghoshal!! Her voice is pretty strong, she has good control and she has a good classical music background. I like her in Ghajni and Yuvraaj and of course, her famed voice projection in Jaadu hain nasha hain from Jism.
I like Caralisa Monterio and Dominique Cerejo in Rock On .. very niche voices.
