Let’s just say you had the power to read people’s minds. For a day. That’s it, just for a day. What would you do? Would you ‘eavesdrop’ on every other ‘conversation’ happening around you, or invite your best friend to a café, or home and listen to what he or she had to ‘say’?
I wonder how many relationships would jump off the cliff if this phenomenon ever came true in our case. Makes you wonder, huh?
‘Oh, I trust him completely. Oh, I trust her completely. He or she would never think bad of me. I would never think bad of someone else.’
But we all know that it’s not about thinking good or bad about anybody. It’s about what we’re thinking at all, in the first place. Which brings us back to the same question. Are all relationships that robust that they could stand this test? Or are all relationships so fragile that they’d shatter simply because someone you love or like, or …even know, is not thinking what you’d like that person to think?
What are you thinking?

I'm thinking I should get a cupcake.
Well, considering it has always been my choice of super power, I think I'd do just fine knowing what other people think. Add mind control to the mix as well no :P
One word, 'Depressing' it would be for sure.
On a funnier note, when a woman asks a man what are you thinking about, and if he replies 'Nothing', they will surely know its the truth. :P
Kanthu is so, so right.
I don't know what I would do in such a situation. And I am sure no matter what I do, I would still feel about doing something else, or meeting someone else etc later.
Well it will satisfy the eternal quest of human beings to know what the other person is thinking. I feel the other person's thoughts are best felt unheard, the repercussions are beyond measure! :D
PV, that's what you think - because you haven't had a chance yet to exercise your 'super power'. Sure, mind control sounds fun :)
Kanthu, hahah..I know where you're coming from.
KK, welcome! Glad you could drop in.
Rohan, I quite like the way you put it - 'repercussions are beyond measure.' Might I add - 'beyond repair' too? :P
Rightly said... I agree.. and now suddenly I dont wish to have those powers I guess :/
Me: Ha ha..
MSM: :) Mahamegadramasaga :P :D
hmmm....wouldn't that be fun? it would make so many things easier!
but on the other hand, I think, our senses are sharp enough to be tuned in to what someone thinks about us...only if we would listen/ observe more closely...hai na?
Hmm! I think it will get a bit crowded if we start hearing everybody's thoughts though it did give us guilty pleasure to hear some of them...super powers have their own drawbacks!
I guess I am good without them :)
And I also think it will be great if I hear what the heart has to say rather than the mind because a mind could be vicious but the heart could be as gullible :D
M not sure I'd like to know what the other person is thinking.. there is some fun in the suspense...
Anyway, your post reminded me of "What Women Want"...
Princess: The definition of 'fun' is different for each person, I guess :P Yes, that's called 'being sensitive' :)
ET: Yes, the heart usually projects the real person, but then...oh, we could go on and on. :P
Dwiti: Ha ha..yeah, that movie was fun :)
Reminded me of the porcupine's (or hedgehog's) dilemma for some reason.
When you are intruding on another individual's personal space, yes, we are just asking for trouble.
cmus: You kinda nailed it :)
I would pity the person exercising this superpower on nutcases like me. They wont be able to hear one single word clearly - there will be so many things running at the same time, in different languages and varying volumes :P :D
Most of the times, if you are attuned, you do not need this superpower, you already know whats going on in the other person's mind ;)
Visha..I knew something like this was coming from you :)
hahaha that would be fun!
I wud do it not to test relationships...but to feel like a superwoman with superpowers! ;) :D
Aditi: Wouldn't it?? :P
