Night'mere'

We have dreams, and then we have nightmares. Well, technically, any dream or nightmare is just our mind replaying all that crap we thought about during the day. And dreams are good. Sometimes we wake up smiling, and realizing just how nutty we felt watching the dream and behaving as if it were real and all that.

But last night, something funny happened. I was watching a horror movie earlier on (rolling eyes..so what’s new, huh?), and well, some weird images replayed in my head when I was asleep. In the movies, you’d see the guy wake up sweating profusely, panting heavily etc. In my case I was going through the whole rigmarole (in a dream we’re usually like the characters of a story, right..detached from our real selves) knowing fully well it was a nightmare, and that I was just dreaming the whole stuff, and not actually in it. And all this when I was right in the middle of the action, not when I'd woken up. So when the other ‘characters’ in the nightmare assumed weird identities and terrorized folks, I was just side-stepping them, or maybe even sniggering thinking ‘what duds, they don’t even know all this isn’t real’, and being very smug about it.

Huh..so much for playing a spoilsport.

Trust me, being observer in the dream is the best type. :| I had a nightmare last night, were I was trapped in a series of haunted washrooms. WTF. I am afraid of showers now.

MSM: Washrooms..hmm, a classic setting for a nightmare. :)

that happens only to writers who write horror stories.. lol

TFL: I knew you'd come up with something like this :)

There you go, MSM gave you an awesome idea didn't she? :D

Your last nightmare was nothing. Wait until your book is out, and then I shall feature in them :)

Muhahhahahaha *evil grin*

Soumya: Thanks for those encouraging words.. :)

My horror dreams are more of normal situations gone really, really bad. I have been an observer once or twice. Thats it.

Luckily, I am a really deep sleeper (and loud snorer), so mostly I just forget my dreams by the time I get up

KK: Ha ha..you're my man. Right after my heart.

Your mind is probably so used to create characters for horror stories that even in the subconscious level it knows it is just a dream/story after all :P

Well I must say you have achieved a certain impressive amount of enlightenment in the horror genre :)

Until later,
Keirthana :)

Add to it the fact that, we cannot imagine new faces in our dreams. All the faces we see in our dreams are real people we have met/seen in our lives somewhere sometime. We take their faces and put them to the characters we'd imagined/dreamt. How weird is that.

In my dreams I usually start deducing if its a dream or real. Once I start doing that, I become the spectator. But then since I know its a dream, I start changing the course of the dream. And it all becomes boring and unreal.

Dreams are such a interesting subject. They have patterns, they have cycles, they can be colourless too. Once I had a dream which continued the next night. Our brain plays tricks on us in so many ways. :-)

Keirthana: :) Could be..Thanks.

Kanthu: You're like Aayu. Once when I tried waking her up, she told - 'appa, let me just finish this dream...' and promptly went back to sleep. :D

KK said...

Kanthu You are a really logical person. I once felt about some really bad events being a dream and I was right. Great job summarizing it :-)

Princess: hahaha..

KK: Hear, hear :)

Now, Now, I told you this much horror is not good for you :D
I am sure you will turn your nightmare into a story and spook us with it...so out with it :D

And well just yesterday I got a nightmare on zombies because I saw the trailers of the latest flick, can you imagine…just the trailers were enough, puff! That’s so disgusting…and oh they are so ugly :P

I have never been a spectator in my dreams but it would be fun :) I think in your case it is the side effects of being a horror writer :)

Considering lots of us have nightmares after reading your posts... interesting to know that it happens to the writer as well...
