On the other side of an apology

Ok, now this has gotta be a first, at least for me.

The story 'On the Other Side' is not complete yet. So, all those who were mighty confused with the ending, you're not wrong. It most likely will be confusing. Reason? I missed posting at least 3 parts in between. This unfortunately happened because of duplicate word docs on which I was working. And inadvertently, once I posted the story, I deleted the 'working' version (yeah, I sometimes keep multiple documents in progress, weird), which actually contained the original story in full, not realizing that as I kept adding the parts to the final word doc, there was this really huge portion I forgot to add to the final version. I'm yet to figure out how I could miss that. It's crazy.

I don't normally delete working versions simply because sometimes I tend to think the original plot worked better and retain it, just in case I change my mind. But that's only till I post the complete story. Once posted, the one on the blog becomes the final version - and I delete all the working docs.

Big mistake this time.

I realized it only when I posted the story. And now I don't even have the working draft to simply copy-paste it onto the final one. Result? I have to write at least 2500-3000 words by memory. Don't know how soon I'll be able to do that. I'll have to go back to the portion where I think it fit (in the original version), and rethink from there.

Bottomline - A big apology to all those who were following the story, and also commented. I'll come back with this one soon (if not immediately, sometime in the future). Please hang in there.

There was a mistake? When? Where? How?
What are we apologizing here about? :D
Sri, it happens! Chill...
I did not realize there were any parts missing in this because I knew there is going to be super concluding part somewhere and every part of 'On the Other Side' was becoming more n more interesting :)
Super writer that you are, you need not apologize...
Jeez! I was literally spooked when I did not see the successive parts of 'On the Other Side' anymore on your blog...You wont believe, I though I commented on all of them in some daze or dream :P:P
You see what you do to our imagination :):)

So Cheers :):)

ET: Thanks for understanding. Yeah, there are parts missing. Was trying out a new style of narration, so I guess somewhere got lost in that. To be honest, I read the story once again just to clear my own head - and guess what? I might present it slightly differently in its 'redux' version; retaining the original twists though. So, yeah - wait. The apology was mainly due the confusion created. I know how frustrating it is to get to the end and wonder "huh? what just happened?" :)

Uma: Heheh..you're not scatter-brained, the story turned out to be. Redux version coming out soon (edited, and with fewer parts hopefully)

Oh! It is totally okay. Plus such stories are worth the wait. So it won't cause any trouble. :-)

Koi nai Sri..bade bade blogpages mein aisi choti choti galtiyaan hoti rehti hain... its your constant dedication in spinning these stories matters the most. You have entertained us for such a long time with your vivid imagination that we don't mind this small technical glitch.

Good luck and patiently waiting for the final version,

Ohk. I didn't read it but I am squirming even at the thought of you compiling the whole story again on the basis of memory. Be careful with word next time or change the style of keeping too many versions...

and btw, I never get updates when you post something new on your blog :( I always miss your posts.

GBTP: It's a good thing then, you didn't read it. :)

Yeah, it's a bit daunting, but you're right, I need to avoid multiple versions. I've devised a fool-proof method, going forward.

About updates, I've not set up update alerts on the blog; am too lazy to do that. Sorry! You'll have to just keep checking up manually :(

Others (more net-savvy folks) could offer some help. Anybody? :)

Setting up updates would be a good option considering how many ppl read your blog .

aks: True, but I don't seem to find that particular widget (either the ready ones that blogger has or outside). I'll ask around. :)
